In recent months, Twitter has been experimenting with a new feature. called Twitter Spaces.
And now the much-discussed feature is finally available to all account holders with more than 600 followers.
Spaces, which allows Twitter users to listen to and participate in public audio conversations, entered beta shortly after the launch and $100 million valuations of the Clubhouse app, which also offers an audio chat room experience -test one.
Now, as Clubhouse’s user base continues to grow and marketers begin to experiment there, many brands with strong Twitter followings are also beginning to pay more attention to Spaces’ branding opportunities.
What is Twitter Spaces?
Twitter Spaces are live audio talks that are streamed through the Twitter app.
Spaces launched as a beta feature in December 2020 and will be available to all users with more than 600 followers in the spring. Twitter Spaces is vying to become a leader in this space no pun intended.
The Twitter Spaces is a new network feature that allows users to have live audio discussions.
Users can host these talks in the “Space” audio chat room and invite other users to join.
If someone you follow hosts space or speaker in it, it will show up as a purple bubble at the top of their timeline during the conversation.
Anyone with 600 followers or more can now host a Twitter room. So if you’re looking to expand your offering, it’s time to grow your Twitter following to take advantage of this feature.
Available to both individuals and businesses, Twitter Spaces allows them to make more personal connections with their audience.
Additionally, Twitter Spaces are open to the public, meaning anyone can participate as a listener. Up to 13 people can speak in a room, including one host and two co-hosts.
How to start host space on Twitter
People using the iOS and Android versions of Twitter can start a Space:
People on Twitter Long-press the Tweet compose button on the home timeline, then tap the new Spaces icon (several circles forming a diamond) on the far left. iOS and Android, touch on your profile image at the top of your timeline to begin a Space.
When you create a new space, you’ll see options to name your space and start your space.
To schedule a space, tap Schedule for later. Select the date and time you want your space to go live.
The host can invite listeners to become speakers by touching the person symbol and adding speakers, or by tapping a person’s profile photo in the space and adding them as speakers once the space is available.
Your space will automatically publish live captions. Listeners have the option to see automated live subtitles (with a few seconds delay).
The Space is active until you terminate it, or if the Space is determined to violate the Twitter Rules, Twitter may terminate the Space as well.
Who Can Speak in Twitter Spaces?
Only persons you ask to speak in the Space have access to it by default.
This default can, however, be changed in the settings.
To change the speaker permissions, follow these steps:
- Select the speaker icon.
- To view permission options, press the modify settings button.
- Choose your favorite option. Everyone, People you follow, and the default, Only people you ask to speak, are the options available.
You may easily invite listeners to become speakers or co-hosts once your Space is up and running.
Tap the group icon or an individual listener’s profile picture. Additionally, listeners can also request to speak and hosts can choose to allow or deny. As of now, a maximum of 13 speakers are allowed at a time.
How to invite listeners to Twitter Space
Once you start your own Twitter space, anyone who follows you or has a link to your profile can tune in. To ensure a large audience participates, tweet, a private message with the link, and share on other social media platforms.
How can I send a tweet to a Twitter space chat?
You can share a tweet in a chat room by clicking Share tweet, then selecting Share in my space. This helps build the conversation around the tweet.
What Are Ticketed Twitter Spaces?
If you’re a creator who frequently hosts Twitter Spaces, paid Twitter Spaces are a way to generate revenue from them.

Ticketed Twitter spaces are also a great opportunity for artists to host meetups with their most loyal followers, for creators to host exclusive workshops, and more.
Ticketed Twitter Spaces are still in beta, but all users can request access.
To apply to host a paid Twitter Space, you must:
- Have a full profile with the account name, bio, profile picture, header picture, and verified email address.
- Secure your account by enabling two-factor authentication.
- Have 1,000 followers or more.
- I’ve hosted three spaces in the previous 30 days.
- Be at least 18 years old.
If you’ve met these criteria points, you can request access to paid sections from the Monetization tab in the sidebar of your Twitter app.
In terms of revenue sharing, creators can earn up to 97% of the revenue they earn from tickets purchased from their Ticketed Spaces. The remaining 3% goes towards platform fees for in-app purchases.
